Primary data sources
- Schumann Resonance spectrogram — Space Observing System station in Tomsk (Russia). Its data used to be published on the Tomsk State University site sosrff.tsu.ru, which now points to sos70.ru. The chart covers the last three days in the range up to 40 Hz. Our server fetches the latest image every minute, which reduces load on the station and keeps the site fast. The station itself publishes new data less often than that, so the image can stay the same for a while.
- Cumiana Schumann monitor — Cumiana, Italy — a second independent monitoring station. Cross-checking two stations helps distinguish global Schumann events from local interference at one site.
- Kp-index, X-ray flux, solar wind, aurora forecast — NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center public JSON feeds. Update intervals differ by product, from one minute for the X-ray flux to three hours for the official planetary Kp index.
- Solar imagery (SUVI) — NOAA GOES SUVI — extreme-ultraviolet snapshots of the Sun.
- Seismic and volcanic activity — the USGS earthquake feed, plus earthquake and volcano charts loaded from spacemonitor.io. Shown for context, not as a Schumann driver.
We do not run our own physical Schumann magnetometer. Every spectrogram on the site is upstream-sourced and credited.
The Energy Score (0–100)
The "Energy" indicator on the homepage is a simple composite of NOAA data, designed to summarise the electromagnetic state in a single legible number. It adds up three parts:
- Up to 60 points from the NOAA planetary Kp index (Kp 0 to 9, scaled evenly)
- Up to 30 points from the current X-ray flux class (A 0, B 4, C 12, M 22, X 30)
- 7 or 10 extra points when an M-class or X-class flare happened within the last 24 hours
The score does not use the Schumann spectrogram. It is calculated when the site is rebuilt, normally once a day at 06:00 UTC. Banded labels:
- Calm: 0 to 25
- Balanced: 26 to 50
- Active: 51 to 75
- Storm: 76 to 100
The entries in the archive carry their own score, made differently: a pixel analysis of the Tomsk spectrogram gives an intensity from 0 to 10, which is mapped to a score from 30 to 95.
Both scores are presentational shorthand, not physical measurements. They are most useful for comparing one day with another, not for absolute claims.
How daily insights are written
Each daily insight is written by an automated pipeline that runs once a day at 06:00 UTC:
- Fetch the latest NOAA values: the estimated Kp index, the solar-wind speed near Earth and the strongest X-ray flux of the past 24 hours.
- Pass these values and the date to Anthropic Claude (model: claude-sonnet-4-6) with a fixed prompt. It asks for about 200 words in a grounded, science-respecting tone, a reference to the actual data values, and a note on how the conditions might feel, without overclaiming.
- Save the returned title, summary and text as a new insight page. The site is then rebuilt and published automatically.
The daily insight is based on these NOAA values. It does not use a Schumann measurement: the model is given the 7.83 Hz average as fixed background. The live spectrogram is shown separately on the homepage.
What this means in practice: the numbers come from NOAA and can be checked there. The text around them is AI-written. Nobody reviews an insight before it goes live. We read the published output in spot checks and correct or remove anything that strays into medical advice or unsupported claims.
The archive works the same way. Four times a day (00:05, 06:05, 12:05 and 18:05 UTC) a second script stores the latest Tomsk spectrogram with its pixel-intensity score, and Claude (claude-sonnet-4-6) writes a short description from that score and the current NOAA Kp and X-ray values. These entries are also published without a review before publication.
Editorial policy for blog posts
- Every claim that says "research shows" or "studies suggest" should link to the underlying paper or reputable source. Where this is missing, treat it as a bug — we are working through the back-catalog.
- We separate three categories of claim: physics-settled (the Schumann cavity exists and resonates near 7.83 Hz), biology-contested (effects on sleep, mood, cognition — preliminary, ongoing research), and metaphysics-unsupported (mass-consciousness shifts, etc. — explicitly framed as belief, not science).
- HeartMath / Global Coherence Initiative is a frequently-cited source. They sell related products, so we treat them as an interested party — useful but not neutral.
- We use AI assistance for first drafts on some posts, and some posts were published by an automated pipeline without a human edit before publication.
